Participants in the inaugural Auditors’ Forum, held at the Concorde Deira Hotel in Dubai, expressed their strong appreciation for the initiative of the UAE Accountants and Auditors Association in organising an annual forum dedicated to discussing the profession’s needs and challenges.
The forum was held under the patronage of Colonel Saif Mohammed bin Abed Al Muhairi, Director of the Finance Department at Dubai Police General Headquarters and Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors. It was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy and the Securities and Commodities Authority.
Dr Bassam Ajoul, an expert and Managing Partner of Masters Chartered Accountants in Dubai, described the inaugural forum as highly successful, noting that participants demonstrated a clear understanding of the requirements for advancing the profession.
He expressed his hope that such forums would contribute to the continued development of the accounting and auditing sector, adding that they provide a valuable opportunity to benefit from practical expertise and exchange professional knowledge. He said this exchange enriches participants with leading industry experience and helps achieve the forum’s objectives—an outcome the UAE Accountants and Auditors Association successfully delivered.
Dr Ajoul also highlighted the firm’s successful experience in serving clients across the UAE, which has contributed to strengthening accounting and auditing practices. He added that the firm has also participated in training students from several universities across the country.
An expert from Ahmed Al Muqtari’s office said the meeting had helped bridge differing perspectives within the auditing profession, stressing the importance of holding such gatherings regularly throughout the year.
The forum also highlighted that the global financial crisis had clearly demonstrated the importance of the accounting and auditing profession and the vital role it plays. This prompted many countries to introduce legislation and regulatory frameworks governing accounting and audit practices.
Today, for example, most major economies have adopted International Financial Reporting Standards. Even the United States was compelled by the global crisis to seriously consider joining the international community by participating in the development of global standards, reflecting a strong trend towards the international harmonisation of the standards governing the profession.
